It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
